A message from Sir Ducky himself!
Hi everyone! Here is an update from me. I am sure you are all curious to hear how I am keeping. Well, here it goes…
Seeing in Hoorn that there was no keeper of the Red Duck for 2020, the whole family became very nervous and highly stressed… What should happen with us now??
Staying in the Netherlands with Bas & Wimpkje was impossible, as we just heard that they would go to Indonesia to get married. Going with them to Indonesia was impossible because of the bird flu regulations.
Staying alone in the Netherlands was excluded, because it was impossible to further prolong our Dutch tourist visa.
Who else would be willing to take us with them, with the risk to become the next keeper?!
But during the dinner, my wife got a brilliant idea (as always): why not go back to one of our home-countries, Belgium? We stayed there several times, with Ludwig and Hélène, with Jan & Annemie, with Philippe and Jacqueline.
In Belgium, the authorities know us, we are in their data systems.
No need for a tourist visa, no risk to ask for a political asylum, no risk to become a homeless family. And social security is one of the best of Europe.
So, on Monday morning we kindly asked Annemie if we could go and stay with them the coming months, until -hopefully- a new keeper had been found. And yes, she said “YES”!
So, we are in Belgium for the moment, enjoying again the wine-cellar of Jan, the Belgian beers and the Belgian food.
In the meantime, we heard that David and Jackalyn was so kind to invite the Red Duck Club in Edinburgh. That’s very kind.
But for the moment we like to stay in Belgium; not so much because of the remaining uncertainties about the Brexit, but because of the wine and the beer…
We, myself and the whole family, hope to see you all in Edinburgh, hoping that we don’t need a “duck visa” to enter the UK / Scotland…

2020 – Thanks to Wimpkje & Bas
Hoorn
A big warm thanks to Wimpkje and Bas who organized a very full and adventurous day for us in Hoorn. Despite that they were very busy with their wedding plans. Hoorn is located by the see and that was reflected in the program. For example, at lunch time we were out in a smallish boat going around Hoorn harbour while we were eating away on food and drinks brought to us in big baskets. Thanks again Wimpkje and Bas!
